Abstract
En este trabajo se presentan resultados de la evaluación de la competencia científica: explicar fenómenos científicamente. Se indagó en qué medida una muestra de alumnos (n = 24) de las carreras de Bioquímica y Biotecnología de la Universidad Nacional del Litoral (Argentina) adquieren y/o desarrollan dicha competencia durante los tres primeros años del nivel universitario (Ciclo Básico). Para obtener la información, se diseñaron cuatro cuestionarios tomando como base las pruebas que propone el informe PISA 2006. El primero de ellos, para determinar la habilidad para explicar fenómenos científicamente de los ingresantes y, los otros tres, para explorar la influencia que la enseñanza y el aprendizaje en las asignaturas de Química pudieran haber tenido sobre la adquisición de dicha competencia. Se elaboraron instrumentos de análisis que han permitido transformar y categorizar la información obtenida.

To collect the information, four questionnaires were drafted from tests proposed in the report PISA 2006. The first one, was designed with the aim to inquire into the initial competency to explain phenomena scientifically of the first year students. The other three were designed to explore the influence of the courses in Chemistry on the development of such competency. In addition, analysis instruments were designed to process and categorize the information obtained.
