Abstract
The idiomatic dictionary Idiomatik Deutsch-Spanisch (with approximately 35,000 entries) is part of a series on idiomatics (German-English/French/Italian/Portuguese/Spanish), which was compiled by Hans Schemann in collaboration with English, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish lexicographers. The introductory part of the paper outlines the idiomatic dictionary Idiomatik Deutsch-Spanisch in the context of current German and Spanish idiomatic dictionaries. The second chapter focuses on relevant aspects of the pragmatic orientation of the dictionary referred to. A string of examples are used to observe the role of “context dependency” as a possible defining characteristic of idioms. From this perspective, the inclusion of context-bound linguistic patterns, which are determined by speech-act restrictions, represents a novelty in the scope of German and Spanish phraseography. Such context-bound linguistic patterns also feature so-called phrasal templates, equivalents of which are often difficult to locate in Spanish.
