Abstract
A menudo se estudia el perfil de los repetidores, pero falta investigación sobre si los efectos de la repetición de curso son homogéneos teniendo en cuenta las características de los estudiantes. En esta investigación se analiza el impacto de la repetición de curso en la educación secundaria en España a través de un enfoque innovador. Se utiliza el Propensity Score Matching para estimar los efectos de la repetición de curso sobre el rendimiento académico en función del sexo, el estatus socioeconómico, la titularidad del centro y el origen. Los resultados indican que el impacto negativo es especialmente significativo entre las mujeres, los inmigrantes, los estudiantes de entornos vulnerables y los que asisten a centros públicos. Estos resultados ponen de manifiesto las consecuencias heterogéneas de la repetición de curso, lo que exige su reevaluación.
The profile of repeaters is often studied, but there is a research lack on whether grade repetition effects are homogeneous considering the student features. In this research grade repetition impact on secondary school in Spain is analyzed through an innovative approach. Propensity Score Matching is used to estimate the effects of grade repetition on academic performance according to sex, socio-economic status, school ownership and origin. The results indicate that the negative impact is especially significant among females, immigrants, students from vulnerable backgrounds and those attending public schools. These results highlight heterogeneous consequences of grade repetition, which calls for its re-evaluation.
