Importancia de la rotación de imágenes para la comprensión de los “you-are-here maps”

Abstract

Los you-are-here maps son los mapas que se sitúan en el espacio que representan y son utilizados para conocer cómo es ese espacio y planificar desplazamientos por él. Este conjunto de mapas abarca los planos de visita a los museos y exposiciones, los planos de evacuación de incendios, los de distribución de centros comerciales y los mapas turísticos que se encuentran por las calles de las ciudades. Como estos mapas suelen estar situados en paneles o soportes rígidos que no permiten su giro, es necesario proceder a realizar su rotación mentalmente. Esta tarea de rotación mental de un mapa es muy parecida a la rotación de imágenes mentales.
