Comer a contracorriente: comida y comunidad en los cínicos

Abstract

En este artículo, examino la dimensión política de la reflexión y las prácticas de algunos filósofos cínicos en torno al acto de comer. Propongo mostrar que el objetivo de los comportamientos estigmatizados de los cínicos en cuanto a los lugares donde comen y beben no es tanto transgredir el decoro social o las buenas costumbres como socavar la noción tradicional de lo “común” en su relación con el espacio, tal como se presenta en las formas institucionales de la comida y el banquete comunitarios.

In this paper I examine the political dimension of the reflection and practices of some cynical philosophers around the act of eating. I propose to show that the aim of the Cynics’ stigmatized behaviors regarding the places where they eat and drink is not so much to transgress social decorum or good manners as to undermine the traditional notion of the “common” in its relation to space, as presented in the institutional forms of the communal meal and banquet.
