El grado de dependencia de san Juan de Ávila respecto a Erasmo para su lectura del texto griego del Nuevo Testamento

Abstract

En el estudio de san Juan de Ávila viene ocupando un lugar central la cuestión de la posible influencia de Erasmo en su obra. Partiendo de menciones a este en alguna de sus cartas, donde aconseja a estudiosos de la Escritura el recurso a las obras exegéticas de Erasmo, aunque con cautelas, la discusión se ha centrado en paralelismos temáticos más o menos perceptibles entre ambos. En este trabajo mi punto de vista es distinto: analizo las referencias explícitas a Erasmo, singularmente en el comentario a la Epístola a los Gálatas, y luego me detengo en citas implícitas a pasajes fundamentalmente neotestamentarios, con frecuencia escondidas en menciones al texto griego, que delatan la consulta de las obras erasmianas, singularmente las Annotationes in Novum Testamentum. Con ello creo que es posible replantear sobre nuevas bases la discusión sobre la relación de Ávila con el destacado humanista nórdico

In the study of Saint John of Ávila, the question of the possible influence of Erasmus in his work has been occupying a central place. Starting from mentions to Erasmus in some of his letters, where he advises Scripture scholars to resort to his exegetical works, although cautiously, the discussion has focused on thematic parallels more or less perceptible between the two. In this work, my approach is different: I analyze the explicit references to Erasmus, particularly in the commentary on the Epistle to the Galatians, and then I study implicit citations to some New Testament quotations, often hidden in mentions to the Greek text, which betray the consultation of Erasmian works, especially the Annotationes in Novum Testamentum. With this, I believe that it is possible to rethink on new grounds the discussion on the relationship of Ávila with the prominent Northern Humanist.
