Abstract
This text addresses the concepts of music education, music instruction, musical training and music therapy, which are sometimes misunderstood; and emphasizes that the difference between them is the goal with which we use music. Once theoretically defined, we explain why they have to do with musical experience, understood as the accumulation of musical perceptions that people experience over time. As such, musical experience continues to configure itself as we keep in touch with music and we have new experiences. It is the protagonist in the previously mentioned concepts, and responsible for the areas of intervention and the levels at which these musical experiences can be classified, depending on people’s responses or reactions when interacting with music. These processes are very complex since music is no longer valued only for its aesthetic contribution, but also philosophical, ethical and, therefore, educational and social.
