Abstract
Sociocriticism is a trend particularly developed in the academic sphere of the Francophonie (Duchet, Cros, Angenot, Zima). It incorporates some of the Marxist theoretical bases for literary analysis, especially as reformulated by Lukács and Goldmann, and in another direction also by Bakhtin and Adorno, with the aim of avoiding the mere description of contents and a series of different determinisms. Sociocriticism has usually been focused on the study of narrative fiction. This paper, however, will explore the extent to which sociocriticism could be useful in analysing poetry with an approach to the social as language, to interdiscursivity, and—in Bakhtin and Voloshinov’s tradition—to the ideological and dialogical status of every communicative act.
