El sistema urbano de Galicia a principios del siglo XXI: una síntesis geográfica

Abstract

A principios del siglo XXI prácticamente el 66% de la población gallega vive en municipios considerados urbanos, que ocupan solo el 12% de la superficie total de Galicia. Los continuos flujos migratorios y el progresivo despoblamiento del medio rural, junto con otros factores históricos y socioeconómicos, han contribuido al crecimiento de las principales ciudades y villas, configurando un sistema urbano policéntrico con diferentes tipologías de asentamientos: desde regiones y áreas urbanas hasta cabeceras y nodos territoriales. Profundizar en sus características y abordar las principales estrategias de gestión y cooperación territorial que deben impulsarse, constituye el contenido esencial de esta investigación

The continuous inmigration fbw and the progressive rural depopulation, together with other historicaland socioeconomic factors, have contributed to the growth of the mam towns and villages, shaping a polycentr/c urban system with different settlement typologies: from regions and urban áreas to administrative centres and territorial nodes.
