Abstract

This thesis covers most of my research from 2007 to 2013 as a member of the High Energy Physics group in the Particle Physics department at the University of Santiago de Compostela. Most of this work was performed on the LHCb experiment. At rst, I was involved in the installation and commissioning of the Silicon Tracker (ST) detector. The ST is a silicon micro-strip detector which provides precise momentum measurements of ionizing particles coming from the collisions. Afterwards I joined the VErtex LOcator (VELO) upgrade project in the research and development of new sensor technologies for the LHCb upgrade.
