Abstract
Taking part in musical activities brings thoroughly well-founded benefits for human beings; but being the voice an instrument located inside the body singing practice involves a certain uniqueness. There are texts that reflect intuitions from antique times linked to vocal and singing education. However, and thanks to the scientific progress, they have been proved, and they are still under study from different fields of knowledge. By means of a documentary research those benefits are studied, explained and exemplified in this text, which have been categorized in five kinds: physical, psychological, social, musical, and educational. They are discussed in reference to the existing limits between music education and music therapy. Due to the advantages it implies, special relevance is given to the benefits of group singing. We conclude that, as long as it meets best practices criteria, singing is one of the most positive ways of human activity that can be practised along the whole life. It is therefore necessary to democratize the access to vocal and singing education so that, increasingly, more people can benefit from it
