El Juicio Final en textos litúrgicos medievales

Abstract

El Juicio Final es un hecho que tendrá lugar al final de los tiempos, según la fe cristiana. Cómo va a ser y cuándo tendrá lugar es una incógnita que no resuelven los textos bíblicos, ni el Apocalipsis de Juan, en donde se mezclan elementos proféticos, apocalípticos y escatológicos. Fueron los comentarios patrísticos, los textos apócrifos y las composiciones litúrgicas los que contribuyeron a establecer la iconografía literaria y plástica del Juicio Final. Este artículo versará sobre algunos textos litúrgicos, especialmente versículos, tropos y prosas del Officium mortuorum, para demostrar cómo fue el proceso evolutivo

According to the Christian faith, the Last Judgment is an event that will take place at the end of time. Biblical texts do not resolve the mystery of how and when it will occur, not even the Apocalypse of John, wherein lies a mixture of prophetic, apocalyptic and eschatological elements. Patristic comments, apocryphal texts and liturgical compositions have all contributed to the establishment of the literary and artistic iconography of the Last Judgment. This article deals with some liturgical texts, especially the versicles, tropi and prosae of the Officium Mortuorum, to demonstrate the evolutionary process of this iconography
