Abstract
In this essay, we propose an analysis of the death conception and funerary practices in the current Western society from an anthropological perspective. For this purpose, we will study the religiosity and the symbolic thought of these members and we will describe the concrete case of the Galician rural society. In conclusion, we draw attention on the need to revalue the symbolic thought next to the dehumanization of the modern society
