Proxecto Ateneo: atendendo a quen coida

Abstract

Coidar de xente maior dependente que presenta demencia é unha tarefa que condiciona a vida de quen a realiza. Os cambios de personalidade propios da enfermidade, o empeoramento da doenza, os niveis crecentes de supervisión requiridos e a diminución de actividades non relacionadas coa persoa maior teñen importantes repercusións na vida das persoas coidadoras (maioritariamente mulleres). Entre os principais problemas identificados destacan o estrés, a ansiedade, a depresión ou a sobrecarga. Malia que se deseñan intervencións de diversa índole para abordar estes problemas de saúde, escasas son as que empregaron enfoques psicosociais que centren a atención nas persoas como suxeitos transformadores da súa realidade. Co obxectivo de afondar nas intervencións psicosociais centradas nesta temática, realizouse unha revisión bibliográfica sistemática. Aínda que na súa maioría as intervencións identificadas atopan lixeiras melloras nalgúns dos diferentes problemas de saúde analizados, nelas non predomina o papel activo das persoas participantes na solución das súas dificultades. Ademais, evidénciase unha importante heteroxeneidade nas actividades propostas que pode afectar á eficacia das intervencións, e que dificulta a súa aplicación noutras comunidades. Tendo isto en conta, o obxectivo principal deste traballo é deseñar unha proposta de intervención innovadora, que se asente nos principios teóricos da psicoloxía da intervención social e comunitaria, con actuacións que permitan a participación activa das persoas coidadoras no cambio das súas circunstancias vitais. Deste xeito, poderán desenvolver habilidades e estratexias que lles permitan paliar os posibles efectos negativos na saúde derivados de coidar aos seus maiores

Taking care of dependent elderly people with dementia is a life-conditioning task. The personality changes inherent to the disease, the worsening of the disease, the increasing levels of supervision required and the reduction in activities unrelated to the elderly person have a significant impact on the lives of caregivers (mostly women). Among the main problems identified are stress, anxiety, depression and burden. Although a variety of interventions are designed to address these health problems, few programmes have employed psychosocial approaches that focus on people as subjects who transform their reality. A systematic literature review was carried out to explore psychosocial interventions focused on this issue in greater depth. Although most of the interventions identified show small improvements in some of the different health problems analysed, the active role of the participants in the solution of their difficulties does not predominate. In addition, there is significant heterogeneity in the proposed activities, which may affect the effectiveness of the interventions, and make it difficult to apply them in other communities. Taking this into account, the main objective of this work is to design an innovative intervention proposal, based on the theoretical principles of the psychology of social and community intervention, with actions that enable the active participation of caregivers in changing their life circumstances. In this way, they will be able to develop skills and strategies that will enable them to mitigate the possible negative health effects of taking care of their elders
