Dos silvas elegíacas de Quevedo: los lamentos por la tórtola y la mariposa

Abstract

This paper studies two funeral silvas of Quevedo, “Al tronco y a la fuente” y “Yace pintado amante”, dedicated to a dove and a butterfly, in order to argue the suitability of removing them from Melpómene muse and attaching them to his silva collection. There are reasons related to their textual transmission and editorial manipulation, but also to the elegiac tone that pervades many of Quevedo’s silvas. These poems imitate thematic variety of Statius’ silvas, in which epicedium prevails, but they instead disdain their heroic profiles. Finally, they share the spirit of epoch represented by “intimate elegy”, which heralds “modern” poetry.

Este artículo estudia dos silvas funerales de Quevedo, “Al tronco y a la fuente” y “Yace pintado amante”, dedicadas a una tórtola y a una mariposa, para argumentar la conveniencia de retirarlas de la musa Melpómene y adscribirlas al corpus de silvas. Existen razones relacionadas con su transmisión y su posible manipulación editorial, pero también con el tono elegíaco que tiñe algunas silvas quevedianas. Éstas imitan la variedad de Estacio proclive al epicedio, pero desdeñan en cambio sus perfiles heroicos. Y se impregnan del espíritu de época propio de la “elegía íntima”, heraldo de la poesía “moderna”.
