Abstract
In order to find new structures and new functions in helical polymers, this project addressed the synthesis of two diphenylacetylenes monomers based on α- methoxyphenylacetic (MPA), M-1 and M-2, because the monosubstituted monomer has been extensively studied in the research group. On the other hand, several disubstituted monomers based on esters have been developed because they are typically used for the synthesis of polydiphenylacetylenes. After the synthesis, the polymerization of these monomers was carried out by the conventional method described for these systems using WCl6 as catalyst and Ph4Sn as cocatalyst. In addition, to obtain the polymers derived from M-1 and M-2, different tests were carried out with the catalyst [Rh(nbd)Cl]2l, tipically used for the synthesis of monosubstituted polyphenylacetylenes and that doesn’t work with the disubstituted monomers. With the polymers formed several CD and UV studies were carried out to check the response of these to different solvents, as well as their characterization by various techniques such as IR, Raman or GPC among others. In this work a first approach to the synthesis and characterization of new polydiphenylacetylenes is achived, so in future projects we will continue working on its complete characterization, as well as in the study of their properties.
