Abstract
El uso con fines educativos de los modernos medios de comunicación originó siempre expectativas ilusionantes, debate y controversia. Así ocurrió con el cine a principios del siglo XX, cuando se hizo una encendida defensa de su uso en la enseñanza. El presente trabajo se propone estudiar aquel debate. Para ello se lleva a cabo un análisis historiográfico con el cual dar cuenta de una nada desdeñable literatura que, en forma de artículos en prensa especializada o informes de carácter académico, insistió en la necesidad de utilizar el potencial del cine al servicio de la instrucción, considerándolo, así, como una herramienta de gran utilidad para el progreso del país. Si analizamos una muestra de aquella literatura, es posible seguir el hilo que conduce a lo largo de un itinerario histórico a través del cual descubrir los principios pedagógicos que sustentaron aquel fenómeno del cine educativo. Giner de los Ríos y Ortega y Gasset serán aquí dos importantes referentes culturales.
The educational use of modern media has always originated exciting expectations, debate and controversy. So it happened with the Cinema in the early twentieth century, when a passionate defense of its use in education took place. This work aims to study this debate. To do this it takes place a historiographical analysis that account for a far from negligible literature such as articles in specialist press or academic reports, insisted on the need of using the potential of cinema in the service of instruction, considering it as a useful tool for the country's progress. If we analyze a sample of that literature, it is possible to follow the thread that leads along a historic route through which to discover the pedagogical principles that underpinned the phenomenon of educational films. Giner de los Ríos y Ortega y Gasset will be here two important cultural models.
