La Asturias suroccidental: crisis y reestructuración territorial de una comarca minera

Abstract

La comarca del Suroccidente de Asturias representa un espacio de indudable personalidad minera, que se identifica en lo esencial con la cuenca antracitera del Narcea. Pese a ello, no deja de presentar unas estructuras territoriales y unos paisajes eminentemente rurales y agrarios de corte tradicional, por más que el laboreo carbonero haya sido y siga siendo aún una realidad, inmersa, eso sí, en una profunda crisis. Articulada débilmente entorno a la villa de Cangas, la comarca presenta serias dificultades para su integración en el espacio regional asturiano, debido a su posición descentrada y poco accesible con respecto a los polos urbanos y económicos del Área Central. Caracterizada de siempre por su escasa vitalidad social y productiva enfrenta el futuro de la mano de la renovación urbana de la villa, de la mejora de las comunicaciones y en la puesta en valor del patrimonio territorial (natural y cultural). Una tradición renovada podría ser la clave del desarrollo. The SW sector of Asturias region (Spain) represents a mining personality area, which is identified in the essential with the river basin of the Narcea. Nevertheless, this region presents territorial structures and rural and agrarian traditional landscapes. The coal working has been and continues being still a reality, immersed in a deep crisis. Articulated to the Cangas small town, the region presents serious difficulties for its integration in the Asturian regional space, with an inefficient accessible position respect to the urban and economic poles of the Central Area. Characterized by his limited social and productive vitality, it faces the future of the hand of the urban renovation of the small town, the improvement of the communications and in the valuation of the territorial patrimony (natural and cultural). Renoved tradition could be the key of the development.
