Abstract
This paper examines the labor and economic circumstances of individuals residing in informal settlements in Spain, utilizing the findings of the KËR research project. The following map illustrates the prevalence of racial and ethnic discrimination in the context of housing and informal settlements in Spain (2022). This study examines the profile of labor and economic exclusion of individuals residing in these settlements, considering the structural barriers they encounter in accessing the formal labor market. In order to achieve this objective, the relationship between work permits, employment status, occupational type, and source of income is subjected to analysis. The results indicate that the possession of a work permit is a significant factor in the integration of individuals into the formal labor market. However, despite this, the presence of a work permit does not guarantee an improvement in working conditions. Among those who do not possess a work permit, a persistent reliance on informal activities is observed, which serves to reinforce their structural exclusion
