Abstract
A hundred years after the end of the conflict that tore Europe apart, with consequences that shook the political and social structure of Italy until the mid-twentieth century, we must reflect on the linguistic renewal that was developing in the Italian army from 1915 to 1918. From the trenches, a true linguistic melting pot for millions of Italians, coming from all regions and from social classes, new words spread, though much of them were ephemeral, which testify a playful and strongly satirical spirit, almost to avert the horrors of the war. My study aims to analyze the main creative mechanisms related to satirical and deforming aspects of language, present in the Italian military slang of the Great War.
