Abstract

The Order of the Hospitallers in the Galician-Portuguese cantigas In the Galician-Portuguese lyric there are few compositions that include a reference to the Order of the Hospitallers or to anymembers of this religious-military congregation. In this paper "tenções" Pero Martiiz, ora por caridade by Vasco Gil with Pero Martiiz and Rei Don Alfonso, se Deus vos pardon by Vasco Gil with Afonso X, the moral cantiga Non é Amor em cas del Rei by Gil Perez Conde, the satires Os d'Aragon, que soen donear by Caldeiron, and Ua dona foi, de pran by Gonçal'Eanes do Vinhal. Our aim is to analyse the overall view of the Hospitallers in each case and decide the subject of each of the compositions.
