Once considered a secondary actor, the logistics sector now plays a central role in enabling productive growth, especially under increasing demands for flexibility, speed, and coordination across global value chains. This study examines the evolving role and decision-making power of Logistics Service Providers (LSPs)—such as transport and warehousing firms—within automotive supply chains, particularly in the context of labour shortages. Using a mixed-methods design, the research combines quantitative labour force analysis with in-depth interviews with 15 senior managers and logistics experts to assess inter-firm dynamics and contractual trends. Findings reveal that logistics providers are gaining strategic influence comparable to component suppliers, especially in negotiation processes. However, this shift varies by company type. LSPs are becoming relevant actors to value chains, similar to component suppliers, due to labour constraints. As consequence, LPSs must reinforce their human resources in coordination with educational centres and public authorities in order to increase the industrial competitiveness in increasingly interconnected economies.eng© 2025 The Authors.
