El padre jesuita Juan de Pineda escribió una diatriba contra ella, hoy perdida, que provocó la réplica de Quevedo, titulada Al padre Juan de Pineda. Hasta ahora se conocían solo dos copias manuscritas del siglo xvii que contienen esta respuesta, una de ellas afectada por importantes mutilaciones del texto compatibles con la censura. Una tercera, del siglo xix, se encuentra hoy en paradero desconocido. La Biblioteca Nacional de España ha adquirido un manuscrito de época que incluye la obra quevedesca y se añade a los ya conocidos. El presente artículo estudia la transmisión textual del escrito, a partir del cotejo de los tres testimonios localizados, para dilucidar la posición del nuevo manuscrito en la misma y su valor textual en una futura edición crítica de la obra. La abundancia de errores y omisiones en el texto, que incluso se acrecientan en la copia de reciente localización, desvela la distancia de las tres copias respecto al original, así como la presumible existencia de una importante difusión manuscrita pese a la escasez de fuentes conservadas.In 1626 Quevedo published the first edition of Política de Dios, a political work that sparked an important controversy. The Jesuit priest Juan de Pineda wrote a diatribe against it, now lost, which provoked Quevedo’s reply, entitled Al padre Juan de Pineda. Until now only two manuscript copies of the 17th century containing this response were known, one of them affected by significant mutilations of the text compatible with censorship. A third copy, dating from the 19th century, is lost. The National Library of Spain has acquired a manuscript dated in the 17th century that includes Quevedo’s work and is added to those already known. This article studies the textual transmission of the writing, based on the comparison of the three testimonies, to elucidate the position of the new manuscript in it and its textual value in a future critical edition of the work.
