AB Se analizan las leyes augusteas sobre las limitaciones y los motivos que llevaron a su aparición, distinguiendo, por un lado, la ley Junia, que se relaciona con el deseo del príncipe de limitar el tamaño de la plebs frumentaria, y, por otro, las leyes Elia Sencia y Fufia Caninia, que, por vez primera, pusieron límites al hasta entonces irrestricto poder del dueño para conceder la libertad y la ciudadanía romana a sus esclavos.
