AB La Biblioteca Nacional de España cuenta con un fondo de documentos sonoros que abarca desde los primeros documentos de música mecánica, rollos de pianola, cilindros de cera, discos de pizarra, discos de vinilo hasta las últimas ediciones en cd-audio. Estos documentos no sólo son fuente de investigación por su contenido musical o de palabra, sino también el continente que los alberga, cajas, fundas, cubiertas, además de sus materiales anejos con los que son publicados.  Su estudio permite conocer la sociedad del momento tanto desde el punto de vista estético, musical, sociológico e incluso historiográfico. Al mismo tiempo el estudio de fuentes paralelas para la catalogación de estos documentos (catálogos comerciales, folletos, fotografías), permite dar una visión global de los que la sociedad demandaba en ese momento, que son fuentes fundamentales y desconocidas de investigación del patrimonio sonoro cultural. AB The National Library of Spain has a collection of sound recordings documents ranging from the first mechanical music documents, pianola rolls, wax cylinders, slate discs, vinyl discs to the latest editions on cd-audio. These documents are not only a resource of investigation for its musical content or oral traditions recordings, but also because of their housing: boxes, sleeves, covers, in addition to all the additional publishing materials such as leaflets, panphlets, etc. Their study allows understanding the society of the moment from the aesthetic, musical, sociological and even historiographical point of view. At the same time, the study of parallel sources for the cataloging of these documents (commercial catalogs, brochures, photographs), allows us to give a global vision of what society demanded at that time, which are fundamental and unknown sources of  sound cultural heritage research. This article focuses on those sound recordings prior to the vinyl recordings
