RT Dissertation/Thesis T1 Influencia de los flujos migratorios contemporáneos en España A1 Fernández Páez, Paula Elena AB Contemporary economic migration flows show a South-North pattern (from low-incomecountries to high income countries).Although, these flows exist since the mid-eightiesof the twentieth century, they have intensified in recent decades. For this reason, thereare causes to explain the persistence of these flows over time and others to explain theirrecent intensification. The first causes would be related to the duality of developmentand under-development while the second ones with the globalization process.Consequently, the social, political and legislative changes influence its management. Therefore, this thesis attempts to answer the following questions: What are thecharacteristics of migration in Spain?, what is its magnitude and trend in recent years?,what were the determinants of irregular immigration in Spain?; are restrictive policiesan incentive for irregular immigrants?, what is the probability of being an irregularimmigrant?.
