RT Dissertation/Thesis T1 Current challenges of Spanish demersal fisheries: from climate vulnerability to global markets A1 Aragão, Guilherme Martins K1 fisheries K1 climate change K1 carbon footprint K1 vulnerability K1 comercio global AB This thesis investigates the intricate dynamics of the Spanish demersal fisheries sector amid a backdrop of global environmental challenges. By examining the vulnerabilities of regional fisheries to climate change, assessing the carbon footprint of the hake supply chain, and analysing the implications of global trade market trends, this study highlights the importance of developing tailored adaptation strategies, promoting sustainable practices, and fostering resilient trade networks to ensure the long-term viability of marine resources. The thesis advocates strategic management actions and policies that address the socio-ecological complexities of fisheries sustainability. The findings presented serve as a basis for increasing the resilience and sustainability of fisheries not only in Spain, but also on a global scale.
