AB This contribution presents a study of pronoun omission in English and assesses theimportance of two explanatory factors, namely simplification due to L2 acquisition anduse and substrate influence, to account for this grammatical feature. The results suggestthat substrate effects are of secondary importance in comparison to simplification as apredictor of pronoun omission in English, but that both factors are necessary to providea full description of this phenomenon.
