AB El objetivo del estudio es medir el nivel de preocupación de la ciudadanía gallega respecto al bienestar animal de los animales de granja a través de cuatro variables: posesión de animales de compañía, edad, género y nivel de estudios. Para ello se desarrolla un cuestionario y se completan un total de 372 encuestas. Después del análisis de los resultados mediante SPSS, se revela que el 85% de la población muestra interés de cara al establecimiento de medidas que promuevan el bienestar de estos animales. Se concluye que las mujeres presentan mayores niveles de preocupación por el bienestar animal, así como aquellos individuos que poseen animales de compañía. Por otro lado, la variable edad no aporta diferencias significativas. En cuanto al nivel de estudios, los resultados revelan que aquellos con mayor nivel académico presentan menos interés por el bienestar animal que los sujetos con estudios de primaria, secundaria, bachiller o Formación Profesional. Se concluye que existe una demanda ciudadana de cara a las instituciones europeas para que se involucren en la producción legislativa en esteámbito.
AB The objective of the study is to measure the level of concern of Galician citizens regarding the welfare of farm animals through four variables: possession of domestic animals, age, gender and educational level. In order to do so, a questionnaire was designed and a total of 372 surveys were completed. After an analysis of the results using SPSS, it is revealed that 85% of the population shows interest in the establishment of measures that promote animal welfare. The data indicates that women present higher levels of concern for animal welfare, as well as those individuals who own pets. On the other hand, the age variable does not contribute significant differences. Regarding the educational level, the results reveal that those with a higher academic level have less interest in animal welfare than subjects with primary, secondary, high school or vocational training. We conclude that there is a citizen demand for the European institutions to get legislatively involved in these issues.
