Businessstarts with human resources (HR). Applying sustainability to manage HRin order to achieve organizational sustainability is essential, becausehuman resource management (HRM) can influence a company’srelationship with its external environment in terms of firm’s effect onsociety and ecology.Forming part of the environmental dimension of sustainable HRM, greenHRM (GHRM) defines organizational environmental policies and practicesof HRM that contribute to the establishment of green organizations. Thosegreen practices can result in a better corporate image and competitiveadvantage.Employee pro-environmental behavior (PEB), both voluntary andprescribed, can be influenced by GHRM that may act as a guidingmechanism for organizational personnel to engage in green behaviorsaimed at saving organizational resources, which may contribute toachieving corporate sustainability. Voluntary PEB may also be influencedby organizational and individual factors. In this study, we propose atheoretical framework that gathers GHRM policies, organizational andindividual factors together in one model to understand the complexmechanisms that promote voluntary PEB at work. We also propose adifferent classification of voluntary PEB that underlines the importance oftarget of PEB.
