RT Dissertation/Thesis T1 Mathematical modeling of the vestibular system: a path to personalized medicine A1 ArĂ¡n Tapia, Ismael K1 Mathematical modeling K1 vestibular system K1 personalized medicine K1 vestibular disorders K1 numerical simulations AB The objective of this doctoral thesis is to develop and validatemathematical models of the vestibular system in order todeepen our understanding of its physiology and pave the wayfor personalized medicine in diagnosis and treatment withinthe field of otorhinolaryngology. This thesis presents theoutcomes of multidisciplinary research that utilized highperformancecomputing and advanced numerical methods toperform numerical simulations of various studies. Initially, arigid model of the membranous labyrinth combined with aLagrangian particle model to simulate the Epley maneuver.Subsequently, a fluid-structure interaction model to simulatethe head impulse test. Finally, a fluid-structure interactionmodel was coupled with a magnetohydrodynamic model tosimulate the magnetic vestibular stimulation.
