AB A través del análisis de las fuentes textuales, epigráficas e iconográficas, la antropología histórica resulta una aproximación válida para estudiar motivos y fenómenos del mundo antiguo, como pretendemos exponer en este trabajo. Siguiendo la metodología y los variados ámbitos de estudio de esta disciplina observaremos el valor polisémico del azafrán en las sociedades griega y romana. Flor bien conocida en la Antigüedad, era utilizada como condimento culinario; esencia de perfumes; medicamento y tinte de tejidos, tomando diferentes significados según los sujetos que lo emplean. Nuestro estudio se centrará en el vestido obtenido de su tintura, el κροκωτός, y su vínculo con la femineidad a través del motivo de la seducción, de modo que, aplicando la perspectiva de la antropología histórica, observemos las diversas valencias de la prenda.
AB Through the analysis of textual, epigraphic and iconographic sources, the anthropological history is a valid approach to study motifs of the ancient world, as we intend to show in this work. Following the methodology and the various fields of study of this discipline, we will observe the polysemic value of saffron in Greek and Roman society. This well-known flower in Antiquity, was used as a culinary condiment; essence of perfumes; medicine and fabric dye, and took on different meanings depending on the subjects who used it. Our study will focus on the dress obtained from its dye, the κροκωτός, and its link with femininity through the motif of seduction, so that, applying the perspective of historical anthropology, we could observe the different values of the garment.
