RT Dissertation/Thesis T1 Development of aerogel-based formulations for regenerative medicine A1 Iglesias-Mejuto, Ana K1 ingeniería de tejidos ósea K1 aerogel K1 scaffold K1 impresión 3D K1 medicina regenerativa AB The prevalence of infections and the absence of tissueregeneration motivate the study of new strategies for themanufacturing of bone implants. Dual porosity and drugloading into scaffolds are needed to promote the long-term newbone tissue formation while the customization of the implants isrequired in personalized medicine. In this PhD Thesis, adual processing strategy was developed by combining the 3Dprintingand the supercritical fluid technologies tomanufacture 3D-printed and sterile aerogels for bone tissueengineering applications. Furthermore, the monitoring ofaerogels and their degradation products after implantation wasstudied in vivo for the first time. This work aims to endowbioaerogels with new capabilities while preserving their safetyprofile and advanced physicochemical performance.
