A literaturereview on their application in surfactant flooding wasconducted. Preliminary formulations showed promise, but ionicliquids were found to be better use to improve the performanceof traditional surfactants. Several formulations were developedto enhance the application of alkyl benzene sulfonates incarbonate reservoirs. Increasing the ethoxylation degree of theionic liquid improved high-temperature performance. Someionic liquids were also evaluated for foam generation in CO₂flooding, showing enhanced stability and increased mobilityratio compared to traditional surfactants. These studiesprovide a foundation for the application of ionic liquids inenhanced oil recovery.
