AB Entre 1318 y 1332 la diócesis de León estuvo regida por don García Miguel de Ayerbe, una figura oscura a la que la historiografía sobre la Iglesia de León había prestado poca atención, cuyos orígenes y vinculación con la política castellanoleonesa del momento eran escasamente conocidos. El objetivo del presente artículo es revisar las escasas informaciones sobre su biografía y qué papel jugó la Iglesia de León durante el turbulento período de las tutorías de Alfonso XI, momento en el que los diferentes bandos pugnaron por hacerse con el control de la ciudad y la recién concluida catedral gótica se convirtió de forma improvisada en baluarte defensivo, con consecuencias directas en la construcción del claustro, que, por aquellos años de la segunda década del siglo XIV, se estaba renovando completamente
AB Between 1318 and 1332 the diocese of León was ruled by don García Miguel de Ayerbe, a somewhat obscure character to whom the historiography of the Leonese church has not paid enough attention: his origins and relationship with the Castilian and Leonese political affairs remained unstudied. The main goal of this article is to revise the little that is known about his biography and to elucidate which role did the church of León play in the turmoil that arouse during King Alfonso XI’s minority. Different groups fought for the control of the city, and the new Gothic cathedral became an improvised defensive stronghold; a move that affected enormously the construction of the cloister, which was being completely rebuilt in the 1320’s
