RT Dissertation/Thesis T1 Design and Characterization of Lubricants Based on Functionalized Nanoparticles A1 Mariño Fernández, Fátima K1 Recubrimiento K1 nanolubricantes K1 tribología K1 aditivos AB The main objective of this PhD thesis is to design andcharacterize efficient nanolubricants based on threepolyalphaolefins(PAOs) and nanoparticles (NPs) of metal oxides or ceramicscoated with organic acids for wind turbine gearboxes andelectric transmissions of electric vehicles. First, preliminarytests and an in-depth literature survey on the time stability andtribological behavior of nanodispersions containing chemicallymodified nanoadditives were performed. Then, thethermophysical and tribological properties of PAOnanolubricants containing coated NPs (ZnO-OA, TiO2-OA, orSiO2-SA)were evaluated; in addition, possible tribological mechanismswere analyzed by confocal Raman microscopy. All thecoated NPs studied improve the tribological behavior of theirbase oil, being the best the SiO2-SA NPs.
