This doctoral thesis isdivided into four chapters focused on improving thetreatment of complications associated with diabetes mellitus. Inthe first chapter, the subcutaneous administration ofbiopharmaceuticals is adressed as an effective and patientpreferredalternative to intravenous infusions. In the secondchapter, supercritical foaming technology was utilised tomanufacture PLGA implants loaded with dexamethasone andbevacizumab. The third chapter develops a drug deliverysystem to enhance the penetration of antifungal drugs into nailswith onychomycosis. The fourth chapter develops an inertcoating for in vitro testing with 3D printed devices.
