Abstract
Juana de Vega, condesa de Espoz y Mina, fue uno de los referentes
femeninos del liberalismo progresista español del siglo XIX. Este artículo estudia su contribución en la definición de la cultura política progresista con sus escritos y con sus actuaciones públicas. Destacan sus aportaciones en la concreción de los valores personales y las virtudes cívicas que dibujan el prototipo de ciudadano virtuoso, su promoción de conceptos e instituciones básicos en la identidad progresista (monarquía constitucional, defensa de las libertades contra el despotismo, elitismo integrador, catolicismo liberal) y el ejemplo que proporcionó con sus actividades filantrópicas y benéficas. La condesa representó el modelo de mujer progresista que participa con su pluma y con su activismo vital en la esfera pública, una presencia que materializó sin romper con las barreras definidas por la ideología de la domesticidad y de la complementariedad.
Juana de Vega, Countess of Espoz y Mina, was one of the leading female of the Spanish progressive liberalism of the 19th century. This article looks at their contribution to the definition of progressive political culture with his writings and public performances. They emphasize their contributions in the realization of personal values and civic virtues that draw the prototype of virtuous citizen, his promotion of basic progressive identity concepts and institutions (constitutional monarchy, defense of freedoms against despotism, elitism integrator, liberal catholicism) and the example provided with their philanthropic and charitable activities. The Countess represented the model of progressive woman who is involved with his pen and his vital activism in the public sphere, a presence which materialized without breaking the barriers defined by the ideology of domesticity and complementarity.
