Abstract
Sweden was one of the few neutral European countries during the Second WorldWar. This fact reinforced its moral status in postwar decades as a humanitarian superpowerand the epitome of the Welfare state. Only in the 1990s began historiography to put into questionthis complacent view, pointing at aspects such as the iron exports to Germany, the pro-German feelings among significant social groups or the military concessions to the German Army in key-moments. However, these contentious issues had been already dealt with by several writers in previous decades, which raises the issue of the relationships between literature and history.
