La voz del libro

Abstract

Para hacer afirmaciones sobre la identidad, el origen, la edad y la trayectoria de un libro hay que preguntarle y escuchar su voz. Las respuestas están en su texto y en su materialidad, en lo interno y lo externo. Como demuestra el pequeño conjunto de códices, datados entre mediados del siglo XII y mediados del XIII, a los que se dedica este estudio, es mejor el silencio de quien investiga, cuando no está seguro de lo que un ejemplar dice de sí mismo, que convertirlo en protagonista de una historia que no es la suya.

In order to make statements about the origin, identity and history of a book we need to ask it questions and listen to its voice. The answers are to be found in its text and its material characteristics, both internal and external. That is what we find regarding this small collection of manuscripts, dating from the mid 12th century to the mid 13th century which is the object of the present study: it is better for the researcher to keep silent when he or she is not sure about what a text has to say about itself, rather than make it the protagonist of a story which does not belong to it.
