«Libros útiles a las ciencias y a las artes»: bibliotecas de oficios en la Galicia del siglo XIX

Abstract

Durante el siglo XIX se crearon en Galicia y el resto de España importantes bibliotecas especializadas en contenidos de enseñanza profesional y de oficios para la formación de trabajadores. Su titularidad correspondía a instituciones privadas que en muchos casos ya habían surgido en la Ilustración y desempeñado un importante papel en la modernización económica del país. Este trabajo analiza las características de estos establecimientos en Galicia, territorio que sintió las profundas transformaciones políticas, económicas y sociales del siglo XIX español, y en el que se registraron interesantes iniciativas culturales favorables al desarrollo y el ansia de conocimientoMany libraries were established in Galicia and in the rest of Spain during the nineteenth century for vocational education and to train workers in crafts and professions. These libraries belonged in many cases to private institutions established during the Enlightenment that had played an important role in the economic development of the country.
