The main objective of this thesis was to study the chemical profile of the algae Bifurcaria bifurcata and Codium tomentosum collected on the coast of Peniche (Portugal), evaluating the antioxidant, neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory activities of its main metabolites in an in vitro model of Parkinson's disease induced by the neurotoxin 6-hydroxydopamine on SH-SY5Y cells. This study allowed to identify 6 compounds, in which only 2 (eleganolone and loliolide) demonstrated to have neuroprotective and antiinflammatory potential. The results obtained in this work consisted of an initial approach in relation to the neuroprotective potential in a model of Parkinson's disease, allowing these compounds can studied in more complex models and to be used as pharmacological agents in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.gl
