High density short rotation coppice (SRC) crops constitute a specialised option for supplying biomass destined for the production of renewable energy as well as other bioproducts within the context of the circular bioeconomy. The objective of this thesis is to provide detailed information on the factors affecting the process of modelling production in SRC poplar plantation, the differences in the process related to differing performance of the genotypes commonly used in these plantations, the biomass production from the woody above-ground and below-ground parts, and the carbon-fixing capacity of the latter. Furhermore, the productive performance of monoculture plantations is evaluated at stand level and compared to that of mixed plantations including a nitrogen-fixing tree species as an alternative to monoculture plantations. The advances attained are reflected in the development of specific management tools for these plantations under Mediterranean conditions at both individual tree level and plot levelgl
