Abstract

This essay will draw a comparison between two contemporary Irish and Galician crime novels. It will demand a gender perspective since the chosen novels are peculiar cases within the crime genre because of the female characters that develop roles which are usually interpreted by male characters. It will aim to explore to which extent the conventions of this genre are modified by the introduction of female characters developing these roles. In the middle of this process, it will also attempt to find, if possible, any traits of Galician and Irish identities, an how they relate to the conventions of crime novel fiction. This purpose will demand a study of setting, characters, themes, structure of the novel and any other aspect that turns out to be relevant
