Geografía e iconografía de un viaje principesco en la segunda mitad del siglo XVII: el grand tour ibérico de Cosimo III de’ Medici y sus imágenes

Abstract

La documentación sobre el viaje que Cosimo III de Medici hizo por España y Portugal entre 1668 y 1669, en gran parte inédita, es una fuente de excepcional interés para conocer la situación de la Península ibérica en ese momento, especialmente por la crónica visual realizada por el pintor Pier Maria Baldi, autor de las 120 acuarelas de la Relazione ufficiale, manuscrito conservado en la Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana (Florencia). En este artículo fijamos de forma definitiva el itinerario del viaje, testimonio histórico fundamental sobre el desarrollo de un grand tour en el contexto ibérico.The documentation on the trip to Spain and Portugal developed by Cosimo III of Medici from 1668 until 1669, in large part still unpublished, is a source of great interest to deepen in the Iberian Peninsula of that moment, especially because of the role as a visual reporter developed by the painter Pier Maria Baldi, who painted 120 watercolours for illustrating the Relazione ufficiale, manuscript preserved at the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana (Florence). In this article we propose the travel’s definitive itinerary, remarkable historic attestation about a Grand tour in the Iberian context.
