Abstract
The approach usually used in the study of Roman citizenship focuses mainly on the political and ideological power of this institution as a vector of Romanization, in addition too its different legal and constitutional aspects. Even though the existence of different political agendas regarding citizenship is widely mentioned and acknowledged, the apparent relationship between a more inclusive conception and popularis ideology, on the one hand, and a more restrictive model and the optimates, on the other, remains without a thorough study. This research project aims to remedy this situation, focusing on the role played by citizenship in the political arena of the Late Republic.
