Abstract
El periodismo de proximidad es una especialización informativa de fuerte compromiso social, en tanto que aborda lo que sucede en el entorno más cercano al ciudadano. No obstante, el sector se halla en un período de transformación, que amenaza incluso su continuidad en algunos territorios (desiertos de noticias). En este contexto, el presente trabajo busca exponer el proceso de creación de una herramienta analítica que sirva para examinar el valor social de los medios locales. Esta posibilidad de evaluación engarza con el impacto social de las ciencias de la comunicación en las redacciones. A partir de una investigación mixta, basada en entrevistas semiestructuradas a periodistas y expertos, así como análisis de contenido, se ofrecen una serie de variables de análisis. Su aplicabilidad se coteja mediante un estudio de casos con diferentes medios locales. El resultado consiste en un conjunto de indicadores sintéticos, acompañados de herramientas adicionales alrededor de tres bloques de interés periodístico (estructura formal, relaciones con la audiencia y transparencia), que exploran el compromiso de los medios locales con su entorno. Este indicador es sencillo de aplicar y surge del propio sector, lo que redunda en su operabilidad. Por ello, nuestra principal contribución radica en la posibilidad de analizar de manera sistemática los contenidos y estructura de los medios de proximidad, de acuerdo con el principio de compromiso social de dichas iniciativas
Local journalism is a journalistic area with a strong social commitment as it addresses what happens in the closest environment to citizens. However, the sector is undergoing a period of transformation, which even threatens its continuity in some territories (news deserts). In this context, this paper seeks to present the process of creating an analytical tool to examine the social value of local media. This possibility of evaluation is linked to the social impact of communication sciences in newsrooms. Based on mixed research through indepth interviews with journalists and experts as well as content analysis, a range of analysis variables are offered. Their applicability is compared through a case study on different local media outlets. The result is a set of synthetic indicators, accompanied by additional tools around three blocks of journalistic interest (formal structure, audience relations and transparency), which explore the commitment of local media to their environment. This indicator is easy to apply and arises from the sector itself, which derives in its operability. Therefore, our main contribution lies in the possibility of systematically analyzing the content and structure of local media, in accordance with the principle of social commitment of these initiatives.
