Abstract
In the Cistercian Abbey of Santa María de Sobrado, diocese of Compostella, a voluminous “tumbo” was put together towards the end of the 16th century. This document has come down to us divided into two parts: one kept in the National Historical Archive (Madrid) and the other in the Reign of Galicia Archive (A Coruña). The contents are very much what we would expect to find in a document of this type from a house belonging to the Cistercian Congregation of St. Bernard of Castile. However, as well as providing standard objective material - documented historical, archive and property data - we also find accounts of prodigious episodes. This study offers the texts of these accounts, their possible or proven sources, contexts, consequences and their subsequent incorporation into the shared memories of the community, and also their surprising spread beyond the walls of the monastery up until the present time.
