Abstract
In order to understand what are the main catalysts of political islamism, and particularly, the ones of radical islamism and jihadism in the Middle East, it is necessary to go back to the end of World War I. Mainly, the purpose of this paper is to understand these phenomenon from a different perspective rather than the one the western media has accustomed us. Through the study of a series of factors first, and historical causes later, it will be given a broad perspective of the instability of the Middle East and the geopolitical interests beyond radical islamism and jihadism. Only in this way can we understand the causes of the birth of terrorist organizations as Al Qaeda or ISIS, and the role played by characters like Bin Laden and al Bagdadi
