Abstract

The prohibition of sexual relations between blood relatives, particularly between the mother and the male child, has been documented by Anthropology in the hundreds of societies of kinship which have been studied. However, from a Sociological point of view -and applying a method which has its origins in the study of Social Action- we have analysed the origin, the raison d’être, the evolution of this prohibition, and why this system could not fail to become universal. In other publications we have given a detailed description of this method and its application to the theme of incest (Allones Pérez 2019, 2025). In this communication, for reasons of space, we will limit ourselves to putting forward for public discussion some of the theoretical results that we have obtained.

Description

This text is a translation of a part of the article “Núcleo de Familia e capitalismo industrial”, published in Revista Galega de Economía, ISSN 1132-2799, vol. 2, núm. 2, 1993, pp 203-212; It was already deposited at Minerva (USC): URI: http://hdl.handle.net/10347/8508 However, due to its own theoretical value, we wanted to deposit it also separately. Translated from the original Galician text by Richard Harris (University of Cambridge) and Carlos Allones Pérez
